Thoughts about Growing Older

I have decided to take better care of myself. It's not just that I have gotten fat; I like to blame that on the change in hormones at middle age, but it is really due to laziness, a love of good food and good (and not so good, for that matter) wine. But, I can tell that I am slowing down a bit, and if I want to continue with the activities that I love...well, I just have to work a bit harder. So every morning that I have to wash my hair, I also drag myself to the gym, or to the Sand River trail for aerobic exercise and strength training--I am even impressing myself with my progress. I am not losing weight, but I have consistently added to my distance.

My doctor said I need more fiber, so I went off in search of metamucil. Let me tell you, this is not your grandma's metamucil. This comes in a variety of flavors from berry berry to lemonade. I chose the Pink Lemonade, because you have to drink this 3 times a day--and I thought pink lemonade would go best with vodka--not that I have tried it, but seriously, it doesn't specify what KIND of liquid!

She also said I needed a daily vitamin. When I told her that I am not very good at taking pills, she suggested taking Viactiv. Who knew that they made vitamins that look like those caramel candies and taste like chocolate? You only need 1 per day, but she said I can take up to 3--and it really does satisfy my craving for chocolate.

All in all, though, taking care of myself did NOT used to be this much work with such small results. No weight loss (kind of like when I hiked across the Maroon Bells with the trip nazi, carrying 50 lbs on my back--all the guys lost weight, but not Mimi, oh no, not her. She just stayed the same.) only a crick in my neck from today's workout. Luckily, tomorrow I don't have to wash my hair....

You are just like me...the hair...its all about the hair...why workout if you don't have to wash your hair. I am glad to see that it isn't just me who thinks about these things. Glad to see that you are working out and staying healthy. I mean geez you are a mimi now with one more on the way, so you better be healthy..you have a lot to keep up with these days.
