Long Weekends are nice...

3 Day weekends are my favorites! Mr. Lynn came for a visit, and we went to a movie (we saw the Book of Eli--fascinating), we cooked steaks on the grill (yes, the weather in Colorado was great for that) and we watched football playoffs and, in general, we hung out together. I cried when he left on Sunday, the weekend seemed really short.

But, I still had one more day on my weekend, and I am not one to sink into self-pity, so I headed up to Estes. My plan was to do some snowshoeing with Maureen and Nan, but the snow wasn't really good for that. So, we just ended up hiking around. We saw the most amazing sights though:
a herd of over 200 elk, mamas and babies, and at least one buck...lounging around!

And one of the things I miss the most, little ER:

The Great Western Stock Show

Spent the morning at the Great Western Stock Show. Mr. Lynn wanted to know why I was working at a stock show. Well, duh, because we have a health screening exhibit and I am, after all, Family Medicine Faculty. My job was to "supervise" the students as they did blood pressure, cholesteral and glucose screenings. Like I could help with any of that. I was pretty good at weighing and measuring the small children and I got my own blood screened, but the students were own their own here...and very impressive.

I love stock shows though; I feel right at home among the cowboys and cowgirls, the cattle, the horses, the roosters--and of course the jewelry, the clothes, and the food! When I arrived at 7 AM, the roosters were just waking up, crowing to make sure the other animals were up too. The cows were all brushed and braided, and the cowboys were already in the bar, knocking back whiskey in the Pfizer hospitality tent!

Anyway, a few pics from my morning adventure:

There are cows...all gussied up and ready for the show

And Ole Cowboys...just hangin' around with the old furniture...(Some call them "antiques"

And the latest in tractors...

and a $3 bottle of water!

My New Year's resolutions

So, I have been thinking about my new year's resolutions. It is important to think about your goals and your dreams here--I mean, what is the point of listing things that you aren't really going to commit to here? In thinking about it, I am going to just list a few things, and really do my best to accomplish them.

  1. Be thankful every single day for my precious family and friends, those people that I enjoy and love and think about every day. I am especially blessed with new little ones, and I will appreciate every minute that I am able to spend with them. I will also be thankful for every picture I receive of them as they grow.

  2. I will quit worrying about my weight, and enjoy life.

  3. I will eat out less and cook more. This is something that I started already, about 6 months ago, and I have re-discovered the joy of cooking, even for 1!

  4. I will try to stay in shape for the activities I enjoy--hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, camping.

  5. I will take a Spanish class and an exercise class.

  6. I will make at least one new friend in Denver.

  7. I will take at least one overnight camping trip, even if I have to go alone.

  8. I will pay off my credit cards totally and quit using them altogether.

So, I think that is it. Now for the hard part--accomplishing them!

Happy 2010 to all of you!
